Easy Moong Usal
Ingredients
2 cups Moong (split or whole)
1 Onion, chopped
1 Tomato, chopped
1 Potato, boiled and chopped
1 tsp Sambhar Powder
1 tsp Garam Masala
1 tsp Ginger-Garlic paste
1-2 Green Chillies
1/4 tsp Mustard seeds
1/4 tsp Jeera seeds
A pinch of Hing
Oil to fry
Salt to taste
Method:
- Soak the moong for half an hour in water
- Drain the moong and pressure cook it for 3 whistles, with a little turmeric powder
- In a kadai, put the oil, mustard seeds, jeera seeds and hing. When they splutter, add the onions and fry till they are transparent
- Add the tomatoes, green chillies and ginger-garlic paste, fry for a minute
- Add the cooked moong, potato, sambhar powder and garam masala, mix well
- Add salt and cook for some more time.
- Garnish with coriander leaves.
Serve hot with Rice, Roti, Puri or Bread.
Tip: You can dilute the usal and use it as a dal or thicken it for a dry curry.
