Hi!
I am Vivek. Here's a quick and easy recipe for a delicious daal to serve with rice or chapati. This dish is popular in Maharashtra.

Matkichi Usal

Ingredients

1 cup Matki/'Math'
1 large Onion
2 tsp grated Ginger
1 clove of Garlic
2 tsp Dhania powder
Green Chillies to taste
3 tbsp Coconut/half can Coconut Milk
Pinch of Hing
Mustard, Jeera, Salt, Oil
Turmeric powder
Coriander leaves to garnish

Method

  1. Soak matki overnight and make it sprout.
  2. Heat oil. Add mustard seeds and then add jeera, dhania powder, turmeric, chillies, hing, ginger, garlic and onion. Fry till the onion is translucent (do not brown)
  3. Add washed matki, salt to taste and 2 cups water and cook in the pressure cooker for 2 whistles.
  4. Add coconut milk /desicated coconut, pinch of sugar and garnish with coriander

Variation:

A drier version can be made using lesser quantity of water and 2-3 tomatoes and some garam masala.
