Spinach Sambar

Ingredients

1 bunch Spinach chopped
1 medium Onion chopped
1 medium Tomato chopped
3 Green Chillies chopped
1/2 teaspoon Tamarind paste
1 teaspoon Sambar Powder
1/2 cup boiled Toor Daal
1-2 stems Curry Leaves
Asafoetida (a pinch)
1/2 teaspoon Mustard seeds
Salt to taste

Method :

  1. Take oil in a vessel and heat it. Add mustard seeds and green chillies. When this starts spluttering add onions and fry for 5 minutes till the raw smell goes off.
  2. Now add the chopped tomato and fry for a few minutes. Add spinach and fry till the raw smell of spinach goes off. Add a pinch of asafoetida while frying the onions and tomatoes together. Add around 2 cups of water, the tamarind paste ,sambar powder, salt and curry leaves. Let it boil for around 15 minutes.
  3. Then add the boiled toor daal and let it boil for 10-15 minutes again. The sambar should be pretty thick.
