Hi,
I am Uma Ganesh from Virginia, USA. I learnt this recipe from a friend. It is very easy to make and very tasty. Hope you all enjoy it too.

Dal Makhani

Ingredients

Green Whole Moong dal - 1 cup
Onion - 1 big
Tomato - 1 big
Ginger/garlic (optional)
Coriander leaves
Butter
Milk - 1 cup

Dry ingredients:

Turmeric powder - pinch
Salt
Chilli powder

Method:

  1. Soak the dal in hot water for an hour.
  2. Chop onion, tomato, ginger/garlic finely.
  3. In a pressure cooker, add the soaked dal, onion, tomato, all the dry ingredients and a blob of butter. Cook very well till very soft, for about 6 whistles.
  4. Transfer the cooked dal to a pan, add the milk and cook till it mixes well.
  5. Check for taste and add salt/chilli powder if required.
  6. Garnish with finely chopped coriander leaves.
  7. Remove from stove and add another blob of butter. Once it melts, mix well and serve with Chappatis, Naan or Rice.

Variation:

Instead of milk, you could use cream or a combination of both.
