Kanjeevaram Idli (6-7 people)
Ingredients
Rice - 1 cup,
Urad Dal - 1 cup,
Coconut - 1/2 cup,
Oil 2 tablespoon,
Pepper 1/2 teaspoon,
Jeera 1/2 Teaspoon,
Channadal 1/2 Teaspoon,
Salt 3/4 Teaspoon or according to taste,
Green Chilli,
Ginger 1/2 inch,
Curry Leaves a few,
A pinch of Hing,
A pinch of Turmeric.
Method:
- Soak rice and urad dal in water for a few hours. Wash and grind
into a coarse batter adding enough water. Keep to ferment overnight.
- Next morning heat oil in a pan add the rest of the ingrdients,
fry a bit, and then mix into the batter along with the salt. The batter
must be thick.
- Steam in idli moulds or greased plate for 10-20 minutes.
- Serve hot with tomato chutney or sambhar.
