Hi friends,
I am Sunita Athri and I am happy that my previous recipe valval was appreciated by all of you. This time I have come out with a new Konkani recipe called 'Ghashi'. I hope you all like it. Do let me know the result at sunitaathri@satyam.net.in

Ghashi

Ingredients

For Roasting:

Half coconut - grated
Red Chillies - 6 to 7 or even more
Coriander seeds - 2 tbsp.
split Black Gram (urad dal) - 1 tbsp.

In a hot pan roast all the above ingredients till golden brown without adding oil.grind it without adding any water so that u will find oil coming out. Grind it fine. Keep aside. Dry peas - 1 cup. (soaked overnight. Pressure cook it for 2-3 whistles.)
Tamarind paste - 2 tbsp.
Salt - to taste

Method:

  1. In a vessel transfer the cooked peas. Add water if it is too thick.
  2. Then add the ground masala with tamarind paste and salt. Boil for 10 to 15 min. Remove from fire.
  3. Serve hot with Rice and Dal as a side dish.

Variations:

You can also season the dish with mustard seeds and cumin seeds if needed. Instead of peas you can make the same recipe with any other pulses like Bengal gram etc. In this dish you can also add some vegetables like Drumstick or Potatoes or Tomatoes or Yam. The vegetables should be chopped. Happy Cooking!
