Hi, I am Pratibha. This is my husband's favorite dish. It is called Daal poodi (a Bihar Prepartion) but for calorie concious people, you can always fry it on a hot tawa by applying little ghee on both sides.

Daal Poodi

Ingredients

1 katori Chana Daal
1 cup water
2 badi ilaichi
2 choti ilaichi
5 kaali mirch
2 bay leaves
1/2 tps turmeric powder
salt to taste
1 inch ginger
2 green chillies
1/2 tsp cumin seeds
pinch of asafoetida
2 tbsp oil/ghee.
wheat flour

Method:

  1. Pressure cook to 4 whistles chana daal, water, turmeric, salt, badi ilaichi, choti ilaichi, black pepper and bay leaves.
  2. Open the cooker once the pressure is released.
  3. Remove the bay leaves.
  4. Heat 2 tbsp of ghee/oil.add cumin seeds .
  5. Fry ginger and green chillies
  6. Add chana daal mixture and cook it till the water dries and it forms into a dough.
  7. Make a dough of wheat floor and water.
  8. Make a ping pong ball sized out of the wheat dough and make a small depression into the baal with you finger.
  9. Fill 2 tsp of the dall dough in the depression and carefully close it and roll it into small size pooris

Fry and enjoy the daal poori with any pickle or raita.
