I am Anandhi Vijay. I live in Chennai. Its time for Diwali celebration in India. A festival of not only lights, but also of sweets and savouries! Here is a simple sweet receipe. Try this out and send your comments to av6972@eth.net.

Toffee

Ingredients

Milk powder - 500 gms
Butter - 250 gms
Cocoa powder - 8 tsps
Sugar - 750 gms

Method:

  1. Mix sugar with just enough water and keep it over fire.
  2. Boil sugar unitl it reaches one string consistency.
  3. Add butter and remove from fire. The butter will automatically melt in the heat.
  4. Mix milk powder and cocoa and seive well.
  5. Add this with sugar little by little and stir well.(Add this before the sugar syrup turns cool)
  6. The mixture should form a ball.
  7. Press this on a greased plate and allow it to cool for few minutes.
  8. Cut it into small pieces.

Note:

  1. If you like, you can even strew finely cut cashews, badams and pistas on top of the pressed toffee before cutting, when it is still hot.
  2. Sometimes, the toffee will be slightly loose. Don't panic. Place the cut pieces in a air tiight container and keep it in refrigerator so that it will become slightly hard. It will be as soft and yummy as a bar chocolate you buy from shops.
