Hi! I am Rashmi Sundar from Detroit. This preparation is the only way I could get my 3 year old daughter to eat vegetables.

Brussels Sprouts Thuvaran

Ingredients

1 lb Brussels Sprouts
2 flakes of garlic
1/2 tsp jeera
pinch of turmeric powder
1/4 tsp chilly powder
1 tbsp grated coconut(fresh)
1 tsp oil
mustard seeds & curry leaves for seasoning
salt to taste

Method

  1. Chop the sprouts coarsely using a food processor and keep it aside.
  2. Grind ( without any water ) the coconut, garlic & jeera, as finely as possible.
  3. Heat the oil in a non stick pan and add the mustard seeds & curry leaves for seasoning.
  4. Add the chopped sprouts to the pan along with the ground masala and a little bit of salt.
  5. Sprouts cook easily so do not add any water. Keep frying it lightly and add more salt to taste. Remove the pan from heat once the fresh smell of sprouts is gone. Don't let it get overcooked.

You can have this as a side dish with rice. You can use chopped green beans, chopped cabbage or chopped cauliflower for the same preparation.
