Hi,
This is Mou again from CA. I have already shared two recipes Pati Sapta (sweet) & Fish bread roll through bawarchi contribution. Today I would like to share a snacks recipe named Dhonka. I have learned it from my mother. I hope you also like this recipe. My e-mail id : moumanna@hotmail.com

Dhonka

Ingredients

1.. Chana dal (500gm.)
2.. Chopped Green Chilli (3nos.)
3.. chopped Onion (1 medium size)
4.. chopped Ginger & Garlic
5.. Cumin seeds (1 teaspoon)
6.. Turmeric powder( 1/2 teaspoon)
7.. Red Chilli powder (as your taste)
8.. Sugar (a pinch)
9.. Salt to taste
10.. Oil for fry

Method:

  1. Take chana dal & soak it at leaste 2 hours. Then wash the dal & put it in a mixer, put little bit water for making a smooth paste.
  2. Now take a karai on a low flame heat, put 2 teaspoon oil. After heat the oil add cumin seeds, when it's started to splutter add chopped onion, green chillies, ginger & garlic, cook it for few seconds. Add dal paste, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, salt & sugar, stir it untill the paste doesn't stick the karai.
  3. Take out the dal paste on a flat tray & give a little press on it by your hand to make the upper level plain. Keep it in freez & let's make it cool.
  4. After 15-20 minutes take out the tray. The dal paste becomes little bit hardy so that it will be easy to cut them into pieces otherwise it can be broken.
  5. Now take a deep fry pan, put enough oil for deep fry & keep it on a meidum flame. When oil will be ready fry the dhonka pieces carefully till golden brown.
  6. Serve hot with Sauce/ Chutney.

Note: You can also make a curry of it. Cut potato into cubes, wash & keep aside. Take a karai, put oil in it, add whole garam masala (cinnamon stick, bay leaves, green cardamom). When aroma will come out add potatoes. Fry potatoes till light brown. Put ginger paste, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, coriander powder, garam masala powder, salt & cook it for few times. Add enough water because when you will add dhonkas it will soak lots of gravy & curry becomes dry. Now cook it untill potatoes become boiled. Add little bit sugar & dhonka, cook for few minutes. Your dhonka curry is ready to serve with rice/chapati what ever you like.
