Green Moong Dal Chaat
Ingredients
2 cups dry Whole Green Mong dal
2 Potatoes boiled and cut into small pieces
1 large Red Onion chopped finely
1/2 cup of Plain Yogurt
4-5 tbsp of Imli Chutney
Salt to taste
1 or more Green Chilies finely chopped
Handful of Cilantro finely chopped
One fried flour Tortilla crumbled
Handful of fine Farsan Sev (available at most Indian stores)
To make Chutney:
Add 2-3 tbsp of concentrated imli paste (available at most Indian stores)
to a pot filled with a cup of water. Add about 1/4 cup of sugar, tiny bit
of red pepper powder and a pinch of salt and cook till the water, imli
paste, sugar are all concentrated and the mixture resembles a chutney.
Method:
- Soak the moong dal in water overnight or for 5 - 6 hours.
- Strain water, add enough fresh water to cover the dal and cook the dal. The dal should be cooked to the point where the moong dal grain is still intact and there
is some bite to the dal (Please don't make a mush else you have to start
over).
- Once the dal is cooked, drain and cool it and mix it with the boiled
potatoes. Add the diced onions, cilantro and green chilies to the dal mix.
- In a separate bowl, mix the yogurt and imli chutney and add that to the dal
mix.
- Finally right before serving mix in the crumbled flour tortilla
(taste's just like poori added to a bhel mixture) and top it off with sev.
This recipe will hopefully be something from the same old chaat recipes.
Enjoy.
