I am Diwakar. This is a very typically Maharatrian preparation, being passed from
mother to daughter and down the line. I have learnt it from my mother
and my husband love it.

Moong (Sprouted Moong) Birdhe
Ingredients
Sprouted Moong 250 gms
Garlic paste 2 tsp
Red Chilly powder 1 tsp
Turmeric powder 1/4 tsp
Finely chopped Onion 150 gms
Coconut Milk of 1 coconut (Freshly made)
Tamarind pulp 4 tsp (thick)
Coriander (By choice)
Salt to taste
Oil as needed
Method:
- Peel the sprouted moong.
- Mix the moong, garlic paste, red chilly powder, turmeric powder,
and onion together in a bowl. Do not add salt.
- Heat oil in and deep pan. Add the above mixture in and saute on a low flame, till the moong softens, but do not cook completely.
- Now, add the coconut milk, tamarind pulp and salt. Bring to boil and cook the moong completely. Add coriander and bring to boil for another two minutes.
- Serve hot with Chapatis and Rice.
