Jhatpat Masala Khichadi
Ingredients
Rice - 2 cups
Tuvar Dal - 1 cup
Onion - 1 medium medium chopped
Potato - 1 medium medium chopped
Tomato - 1 medium (optional) medium chopped
Oil - 2 tbsp
Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
Asafoetida - 1/2 tsp
Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
Garlic - 5-6 flakes (finely chopped)
Red Chilly - 2-3 nos
Lemon Juice - 1 tsp
Dhana-Jeera powder - 1 tsp
Salt to taste
Warm Water - 4 cups
Method:
- Wash rice and tuvar dal and keep for 10 mins.
- In a pressure pan, heat some oil and put mustard seeds. When they crackle, add asafoetida and finely chopped garlic and red chillies.
- Then add turmeric powder and chopped onions, potatoes and tomato. Saute for 2 mins. Then add the washed rice and tuvar dal. Saute till it mixes.
- Then add dhania jeera powder and salt as per taste and warm water. Lastly add lemon juice and cook for 10 mins after 1 whistle. (tuvar dal should be properly cooked).
- Serve hot with papad and achar of your choice!
