Hi,
I am Rajshri from USA, (IL) like to share the following recipe. Just try out other way of daal. Here's is a simple and delicious recipe of daal. It is Known as "Mirchi-daal" (chilly-daal).

Mirchi-Daal

Ingredients

1/2 cup Toor Daal
3 Green Chillies chopped (depends on your taste!)
3 tablespoon grated Copra
1 medium Tomato chopped
1 medium Onion chopped
1/2 teaspoon Garlic-Ginger paste
1 teaspoon Garam-Masala Powder
1-2 stems Curry Leaves
Asafoetida (a pinch)
Turmeric powder (a pinch)
1/2 teaspoon Mustard seeds
2 tbsp chopped Coriander leaves
Salt to taste

Method:

  1. First boil toor daal, onion and tomatoes (chopped) in Pressure Cooker till daal becomes soft, appoximate 3 vessels. Make it soft with spatula or other means.
  2. Take oil in a vessel and heat it. Add mustard seeds. When this starts spluttering add curry leaves, pinch, asafoetida, ginger-garlic paste and fry for 5 minutes.
  3. Then add grated copra and fry till it becomes light brown. Add a pinch of turmeric powder. Now add 2 tbsp chopped coriander leaves.
  4. Then add the boiled toor daal with garam-masala & salt to taste and let it boil for 10-15 minutes again. The daal should be pretty thick.
  5. Serve hot with rice or chapaties.
