I am Raghu. This Tomato Rasam can be prepared in 10-15 minutes and can be served as an appetizer or can be taken with rice. This tomato rasam preparation does not require dal.

Tomato Rasam

Ingredients

2 Tomatoes
1 tbsp Tamarind
4 Green Chillies
1" piece Ginger
2 stalk of Curry Leaves
1 stalk of Coriander leaves
1 tsp Mustard
2 tsp Cumin seeds
2 pinches Asafoetida
1 tbsp Ghee
2 tsp Rasam Powder
Salt to taste

Method:

  1. Put 1 table spoon of tamarind in a cup of water and heat it for about 2 minutes.
  2. Put 5 cups of water in a vessel.
  3. To the vessel add the following: Cut tomatoes, ginger finely cut green chillies finely chopped, 1 stalk of curry leaves, 2 tea spoons of rasam powder, 1 tea spoon of cumin seeds, 1 pinch of asafoetida, salt to taste. Let this boil for about 10-12 minutes.
  4. In a separate pan add a tea spoon of mustard and wait for it to splutter. Add 1 tea spoon of cumin seeds, 1 stalk of curry leaves, 1 pinch of asafoetida. Add this to the boiling rasam.
  5. Cut coriander leaves and garnish the dish.
  6. Serve it hot as an appetizer or with hot rice.
