Hi!
I'm Ranjini, seattle WA. Hope you liked my urad dal rice recipe. Here is another recipe of a gravy which can be mixed with rice, served as side dish for rotis, chapatis. You can make this gravy with cabbage, beans, dill, avarekayi, spinach or green peas.

Kozhambu (sambhar)

Ingredients

1 cup Toor Dal
1/2 tsp Mustard
2 tbsp Coriander (dhaniya)
A pinch of Turmeric
A pinch of Hing (asafoetida)
1 tsp Rice
1 cup Coconut (grated)
7-8 Red Chillies
Curry leaves

Method:

  1. Grind the above ingredients except toor dal & curry leaves by adding little amount of water.
  2. Make it into a paste (in between coarse & fine).
  3. Cut the vegetables into small pieces, cook along with toor dal & a pinch of turmeric.
  4. Add the ground paste to cooked vegetables & toor dal. Add salt to taste & mix well. Boil nicely. Add some curry leaves while boiling. Your kozhambu is ready.
  5. You can mix this with rice & eat or you can also have this as a side dish with rotis, chapatis. Hope you like this.
