I'm Charan Priya Mangipudy & I'm a Software Engineer in Chicago. I do browse Bawarchi often and now I would like to share my favourite recipe taught by my mother.

Patholi

Ingredients

Chana Dal 1 cup
Moong Dal 1 cup
Arhar Dal 1/2 cup

Onions 2-3
Red chillies 2
Asafoetida A pinch
Curry Leaves
Mustard seeds 1 tsp
Urad dal 1 tsp
Turmeric Powder Pinch
Salt
Oil

Procedure:

  1. Soak dals for 2-3 hours.
  2. Grind them coarsely. Add salt & a pinch of turmeric.
  3. Meanwhile cut onions into small pieces.
  4. Put a kadhai on stove add 5tsp of oil and add asafoetida.
  5. Add mustard seeds, when they crackle, add urad dal, red chillies & curry leaves.
  6. Add onions and fry till golden brown.
  7. Add the ground dal paste.
  8. Keep in medium flame & stir occasionally.
  9. Add oil if needed.
  10. Fry till light brown.
  11. Goes well with rice.
