Tasty Dhal

Ingredients

Whole Green gram (moong) 1/2 cup
Gram dhal 1/2 cup
Ripe tomatoes cut into cubes 4
Onion finely chopped 4
Chopped ginger 1 inch
Chopped coriander 1 tsp
Chilli powder 1 1/2 tsp *
Garam masala 1/2 tsp *
Cumin powder 1/4 tsp*
Coriander powder 1/4 tsp*
Sugar 1 tsp
Turmeric powder 1/4 tsp*
Salt to taste
Fresh cream (optional) 1 tsp
Oil 2 tablespoons

Method of preparation

  1. Cook the dhals together in the pressure cooker. U may have to wait for  five to six whistles.
  2. Allow it to cool.
  3. In a pan take the oil and heat.
  4. To this add onion and ginger and fry,  till the onions turn golden brown.
  5. Now add the tomatoes and let them cook for a few minutes.
  6. Now add the cooked dhal and stir.
  7. Add all the dry masalas *, salt and sugar.
  8. Boil  on a low flame, stirring occasionally for five to ten minutes.
  9. Add the fresh cream before taking off the fire.
  10. Garnish with chopped coriander and serve hot with Roti or Puri or any rice dish.
