- Spectacular effects can be got from simple items like silver balls (available in many sizes), multicoloured round sweet granules, coloured sugars(shown in next tip), chocolate sev, chocolate buttons big and small, gems or m&ms and even nuts like walnut halves, almonds, pistachios. Then glazed or canned cherries, strawberries, etc. may also be used.
- Put some sugar in a jar, add a few drops of desired food colour, shake jar well, and keep aside to allow the colour to permeate every grain.
- Fruit like cherries, strawberries, etc. may be dipped halfway in melted chocolate, allow to dry and used as a very attractive decoration for cakes, since the colour effect is spectacular, especially on a white cake topping.
- Powdered praline may be used to roll an iced cake in, to stud it all over and on the sides for a change. Coconut flakes may also be used similarly. Or a nice wide satin ribbon tied along the side of a round cake to end in a well shaped bow, will give a festive look to even the simplest cake.
