Broad Bean

Vicia faba, Fava bean

Description:
A species of bean native to North Africa. Broad beans are consumed while young and tender and even the tender leaves are used liked spinach. The beans are removed from the pods and they are par boiled and the coating is removed before cooking.

Commonly used in:
Used in soups, salads

Health Benefits:
They're a great source of protein and carbohydrates, as well as vitamins A, B1 and B2.
