  • Long grain Rice - 3 cups
  • Toor Dal - 1/2 cup
  • Chana dal - 1/2 cup
  • Red Chillies - 6 to 8 (chilli powder can be added for taste)
  • Cumin seeds - 1 tsp
  • Big Onion - 1 (cut finely)
  • Dry Coconut - 3 tbsp (if desired)
  • Hing - a pinch
  • Oil for cooking
  • How to Make Adai with Rice and Daals:

    1. Soak the rice and dals separately for at least 2 hours.
    2. Grind the rice and chillies well in a mixie jar.
    3. Grind the dals coarsely. Mix them together.
    4. The consistency has to be like the batter for dosa.
    5. Add salt as per taste.
    6. Mix jeera, cut onion, coconut and hing.
    7. Heat tawa and make adais.
    8. Use about 1 tsp of oil for each adai.
    9. Cook on both sides.
    10. Serve hot with coconut chutney.
