Ingredients

  • flour - 1 cup
  • Rice flour - 1/3 cup
  • Butter - 1/2 cup
  • powdered Sugar - 5 tbsp
  • salt 1 pinch
  • vanilla essence - 1/2 tsp
  • clotted Cream (malai) - little, if necessary
  • How to Make American Short Bread Cookies:

    1. Preheat the oven to 160 degrees centigrade.
    2. Sift flour with rice flour and salt. Mix in the sugar.
    3. Add cold butter. Mix gently with finger tips till the fat is evenly distributed.
    4. If it is very crumbly, add a little malai.
    5. Knead gently and gather the mixture into a dough.
    6. Put the dough into a round, about 1.5 cm thick.
    7. Cut into rounds with a biscuit cutter.
    8. Place on a greased baking tray.
    9. Bake till golden brown (about 20 minutes).
    10. Cool and store in an air tight container.
