Ingredients

  • flour - 1 cup
  • rice flour - 1/3 cup
  • butter - 1/2 cup
  • powdered sugar - 5 tbsp
  • salt 1 pinch
  • vanilla essence - 1/2 tsp
  • clotted cream (malai) - little, if necessary

How to Make American Short Bread Cookies

  • Preheat the oven to 160 degrees centigrade.
  • Sift flour with rice flour and salt. Mix in the sugar.
  • Add cold butter. Mix gently with finger tips till the fat is evenly distributed.
  • If it is very crumbly, add a little malai.
  • Knead gently and gather the mixture into a dough.
  • Put the dough into a round, about 1.5 cm thick.
  • Cut into rounds with a biscuit cutter.
  • Place on a greased baking tray.
  • Bake till golden brown (about 20 minutes).
  • Cool and store in an air tight container.
