Ingredients

  • 2 cups - finely chopped and par boiled Spinach
  • 1 cup - finely chopped Onions
  • 1/2 cup - finely chopped green chillies, ginger, Coriander leaves
  • 1/2 cup - fresh Green peas
  • 1/2 cup - finely diced Carrots
  • 1/2 cup - diced green Capsicum
  • 1/2 cup - finely chopped Tomatoes
  • 1 tsp - salted Butter
  • 1/2 cup - shredded cheese
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tsp - black pepper powder
  • Optional:
  • 1/2 cup - mashed Paneer
  • 1/2 cup - tender sauteed Mushrooms
  • 1/2 cup tender fresh Olives
  • 1/2 cup - diced Pineapple chunks or any minced meat/tuna/chicken etc.
  • For the pie crust:
  • 1 cup - finely sifted Maida
  • 1 cup - Milk
  • 1 tsp - baking powder
  • 1/4 - tsp - salt
  • 2 -eggs
  • How to Make American Spinach Pie:

    1. Mix together all the chopped vegetables, salt, cheese, black pepper powder, butter in a greased baking dish.
    2. Whisk in a blender all the ingredients for the pie crust.
    3. Pour this whisked batter over the vegetable mix in the baking dish.
    4. Put the baking dish in a pre-heated oven at 300 degree F for 50 minutes.
    5. Optionally you may want to cover the top of the dish with an aluminium foil.
    6. Take out from the oven when the top turns golden brown and the pie appears firm.
    7. Cut into pieces and serve hot with golden crust buttered toasts and tomato ketchup.
