How to Make Aval Upma - Poha Upma

  • Wash the poha in a colander under running water.
  • Gently press the poha to remove the excess water and keep it aside in a plate.
  • Heat oil in a pan and splutter the mustard seeds.
  • Add the remaining seasoning ingredients and fry until the dhal is cooked.
  • Add chopped onions and fry till it become soft and add turmeric powder. Mix, cover and cook it for 3-4 minutes on low heat.
  • Add chopped tomatoes and cook for a minute.
  • Meantime with help of fork, gently fluff up the poha and add to the onion tomato mixture.
  • Stir gently and add salt to taste.
  • Add lemon juice to the mixture and stir well.
  • Garnish with cilantro.
  • Serve hot with curd or any raita.
