  • 250 grams - pressed Rice (poha)
  • 750 grams - Jaggery (gur), grated
  • 2 tbsp - Ghee
  • 1 cup - grated Coconut
  • 1 tsp - sesame seeds (til)
  • 2- coconut, scraped
  • 1 tsp - green Cardamom powder
  • 1 -banana cut into small pieces
  • How to Make Aval Vilayichathu:

    1. Dissolve jaggery in 1.5 cups of water over low heat. Strain.
    2. Heat ghee in a pan and fry coconut slivers, sesame seeds and set aside.
    3. Heat this syrup in a heavy bottomed vessel.
    4. Add scraped coconut and cook over low heat, stirring continuously, till one-thread consistency is reached.
    5. Add the aval, sesame seeds, and cardamom powder.
    6. Mix well for 2 minutes till the aval is well coated with the jaggery and coconut. Remove from heat and allow it to cool slightly.
    7. Garnish with slices of bananas.
