Ingredients

  • 1 - fish head of any big fish (katla)
  • 2 - banana flowers/mocha
  • 200 g - split yellow moong beans/moong dal
  • 1 - onion, medium
  • 10-12 - small brinjals
  • 2 potato, medium
  • 1.5 tsp - panch-phoron
  • 1 tsp - cardamom powder
  • 1 - bay leaf
  • 1 inch - ginger piece (paste)
  • 2 - green chillies (slit lengthwise)
  • 1 tsp - turmeric powder
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil - as required

How to Make Banana flower with Moong dal n fish head

  • Chop onions into slices and potato and brinjals into cubes.
  • Prepare the banana flowers and boil for 5 to 6 minutes, keep aside.
  • Dry roast moong dal, keep aside.
  • Fry the fish head, keep aside.
  • In a cooker, add moong dal, banana flowers and potato with 5 cups of water, turmeric powder and salt. Pressure cook for 4-5 minutes. Or cook till the dal is 80 percent cooked in a large wide-bottomed pan.
  • Heat 1.5 tbsp oil in a large wide-bottomed pan and add panch foron.
  • Once it starts to splutter, add bay leaf and ginger paste and fry.
  • Add green chillies and onion and fry till translucent.
  • Add the fish head, mix well with the spices.
  • Add brinjal and cook for another 2 minutes.
  • Add the moong dal and banana flower gravy.
  • Cover the lid and cook for another 10-12 minutes. Gravy should be semi-consistent. Add another cup of water if required.
  • Sprinkle cardamom powder and turn off the flame.
