Ingredients

  • 2 cups - fresh field beans
  • 2 tbsp - sesame oil
  • 1/2 tsp - Cumin seeds
  • 4 tbsp - finely chopped Onion
  • 1 tsp - finely chopped Garlic
  • 1 tsp - finely chopped fresh Ginger
  • 1 tsp - sambar powder
  • 1 tsp - salt
  • 1 - Lime juice
  • 2 tbsp - finely chopped fresh Coriander leaves
  • To prepare the tawa toast
  • 4 - bread slices
  • Unsalted Butter as required

How to Make Benda kaalu on toast

  • Boil field beans in enough water adding a pinch of salt. Drain the cooked beans and keep aside.
  • Crush the ginger and garlic together and keep aside.
  • Heat oil in a pan and add cumin seeds.
  • When the seeds puff up add the crushed ginger and garlic.
  • Add the finely chopped onion and fry till they become golden in colour.
  • Keep a low flame and add the sambar powder and salt.
  • Retain one tbsp of beans and stir the rest into the pan.
  • Mash the retained beans with one tbsp chopped coriander leaves using a mixer.
  • Add the mashed coriander and beans mixture to the kaalu in the pan and stir well.
  • Cook till curry becomes thick.
  • Mix in the lime juice and the remaining coriander leaves.
  • Spread the curry on toast and serve.
