Ingredients

  • 1 lb - Black-eyed peas (dried)
  • 1 - Medium Onion
  • 1-2 - Green chillies
  • 2 inch - Ginger
  • 1 bunch - Coriander leaves
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil for deep frying
  • How to Make Black-Eyed Pea Vada:

    1. Soak black-eyed peas for about 3-5 hours. Wash the soaked peas thoroughly to get rid of the skins.
    2. Grind 3/4 of the peas coarsely in the food processor with green chillies and ginger.
    3. Chop onion and coriander very fine and add to the black-eyed peas mixture.
    4. Add salt and a pinch of cinnamon and cloves.
    5. Heat oil in skillet. Take small amounts of the mixture, make 2 inch round patties of less than 1/4 inch thickness, and fry in hot oil till golden brown.
    6. Serve hot as is or with any type of chutney, tomato sauce, hot sauce or ketchup.
