  • Moongdal- 1 cup
  • Carrots , finely chopped- 4
  • Fresh coconut (cut into small pieces)-1 cup
  • Green chillies- 5
  • Cumin seeds- 1 tsp
  • Turmeric- a pinch
  • Curry leaves -10
  • Finely Chopped Coriander (For garnishing purpose)
  • Salt to taste
  • For Seasoning:-
  • Oil -1 tbsp
  • Mustards seeds -1tsp
  • Asafoetida -1/3 tsp

How to Make Carrot-Moongdal Kootu

  • Boil moongdal and carrots together adding turmeric, salt and curry leaves till they are soft.
  • Meanwhile, grind fresh coconut pieces, jeera, green chillies. Add this ground paste to the dal and boil it for some more time till the dal is done. Add salt to taste.
  • For tadka, boil oil, add mustard seeds. Once it splutters, add asafoetida. Finally, add curry leaves and finely chopped coriander. Pour over cooked dal.
  • Serve hot with Plain rice, Poori or Chapati.
