  • Flat beans - 100g
  • Chana dal - 150g
  • Red chillies - 5 to 6
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil - around 5 to 6 tbsp
  • Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp
  • Curry leaves - one small stalk

How to Make Chana Dal and Flat Beans Usli

  • Soak the chana dal and red chillies for about 2 hours.
  • Cut the flat beans into small pieces.
  • After 2 hours of soaking the chana dal and red chillies, grind it coarsely.
  • Heat oil in a kadai, and add the mustard seeds and curry leaves.
  • After the seeds stop spluttering, add flat beans into the oil.
  • Add a little salt for the flat beans to cook.
  • After the flat beans are cooked properly, add the ground chana dal paste into the oil.
  • Cook well till the water from the chana dal dries away.
  • Serve usli with rasam rice or mor kolumbu.
