Ingredients

  • 1 cup - white or brown Channa
  • 1/2 kg - tender jack fruit, cut into 5 cm cubes
  • 6 - 8 - Dried red chillies
  • 2 tsp - Coriander seeds
  • 2 cup - grated Coconut
  • 2 cm ball - Tamarind
  • 3 tbsp - oil
  • 1 tsp - Mustard Seeds
  • 1/2 tsp - Cumin seeds
  • Curry leaves
  • salt
  • How to Make Channa and Tender Jackfruit Gasi:

    1. Soak channa overnight in water. Drain and place in a pressure cooker.
    2. Cover with water. Add 1/2 tsp salt.
    3. Place the jack fruit pieces in the other separator pan. Do not add any water.
    4. Pressure cook both these for 15 minutes.
    5. Roast red chillies and coriander seeds in 2 tsp oil.
    6. Grind them with coconut and tamarind to a smooth paste.
    7. Combine the channa, jack fruit, salt and the ground paste.
    8. Add water if needed to form a creamy gravy.
    9. Simmer for 5 minutes.
    10. Heat the remaining oil in a small fry pan.
    11. Add mustard and cumin.
    12. When they splutter, add curry leaves.
    13. Add this seasoning to the gasi.
    14. Mix well and serve with steamed rice.
