Ingredients

  • 1.5 lb - chicken, cut into small pieces
  • 1/2 bunch - coriander leaves
  • 1/2 bunch - mint leaves
  • 1 tsp - chilli powder
  • 1/2 tsp - turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp - cumin powder
  • 1 - large onion, sliced finely
  • 2 tsp - lemon juice
  • salt to taste
  • oil or ghee for frying
  • For the paste: 1 - whole garlic clove, medium sized
  • 1" piece - ginger
  • 3-4 - green chillies
  • 1 - cinnamon stick
  • 2-3 - cloves
  • 1-2 - cardamom pods

How to Make Chicken Hariyali Fry

  • Rub salt, turmeric, chilli powder and cumin powder on the chicken pieces and keep covered for 20 minutes.
  • Heat oil in a pan and fry the onions until brown.
  • Add the chicken pieces and fry by alternating between high and medium heat.
  • Add the garlic-ginger-green chilli paste and fry until the water evaporates and the mixture is dark green.
  • Add lemon juice and heat for 2-3 minutes.
  • Adjust the salt, if needed.
  • Remove from the heat and drain the extra oil. Garnish with coriander and mint leaves.
  • Serve hot with rice and dal.
