  • Chicken - 1 kg
  • Red Chilli powder - 2 tbsps (roasted well)
  • Coriander Powder - 2 tbsps (roasted well)
  • Turmeric - 1/2 tsp
  • Ginger - big piece, crushed
  • Green chillies - 3 (crushed)
  • Small Onions - a large quantity
  • 1 Coconut - chopped into small pieces
  • Curry leaves - a small bunch
  • Salt to taste
  • Coconut Oil as required
  • How to Make Chicken with shallots:

    1. Cut chicken into pieces and smear with well roasted coriander and chilli powders, crushed ginger and green chillies, coconut pieces, curry leaves, turmeric, salt and coconut oil.
    2. Keep aside for approximately 4-5 hours.
    3. Heat coconut oil and fry curry leaves and finely chopped small onions till it turns golden brown.
    4. Add the chicken pieces and simmer in low fire, stirring occasionally, for 3-4 minutes.
    5. Then add half a glass of water and keep the lid closed till chicken gets cooked.
    6. Finally remove the lid, stir the gravy and simmer in low flame for approximately 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally till chicken gets roasted and the colour changes to dark brown.
    7. Serve hot.
