Chilli Rasam is a tasty and spicy side dish served with rice in Tamil households. Rasam and samabhar are the preferred accompaniments to rice in southern Indian Vegetarian cusine. Ingredients

  • Tamarind-a gooseberry shaped ball
  • Red chillies-4
  • Mustard-1/2 tsp
  • Jeera-1/2 tsp
  • Tur Dal-1/2 tsp
  • Asafoetida-1/2 tsp
  • Rasam powder-1 tsp
  • Oil-1 tsp
  • Salt-to taste
  • Curry Leaves-a sprig
  • Coriander Leaves-a few

How to Make Chilli Rasam

  • Soak tamarind in water and extract juice.
  • In a pan, add tamarind water,rasam powder,salt and asafoetida. Boil well till raw smell goes away.
  • Temper with mustard ,tur dal, jeera and red chillies.
  • Garnish with curry leaves and coriander leaves. Serve hot with rice.
