Ingredients

  • For Halwa filling:
  • Carrots - 1/2 kg
  • Ghee - 3 tbsp
  • Milk - 1/2 cup
  • condensed Milk - 1/2 cup
  • Cardamom powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Cashew nuts - 2 tbsp, chopped
  • Saffron 1 pinch
  • For cake:
  • eggs 2, separated
  • flour - 1 cup
  • baking powder - One and a half tsp
  • cocoa - 4 tbsp
  • hot water - 5 tbsp
  • Milk - 75 ml
  • powdered Sugar - 3/4 cup
  • vanilla essence - 1 tsp
  • Butter - 1/2 cup
  • salt 1 pinch
  • How to Make Chocolate Halwa Sandwich Cake:

    1. For Halwa filling:
    2. Wash, peel and grate the carrots.
    3. Heat Ghee, fry cashew nuts till brown, drain and reserve.
    4. Add carrots to the same pan and saute them till wilted.
    5. Add milk and cook covered on a low flame till carrots are soft.
    6. Add condensed milk and cook uncovered, stirring, till the mixture forms a thick lump.
    7. Remove from fire, stir in the nuts, cardamom and saffron.
    8. For cake:
    9. Mix flour with salt and baking powder.
    10. Mix cocoa with hot water.
    11. Add milk and 1/4 cup of sugar.
    12. Mix well. Cook and stir on a low flame till the mixture begins to boil.
    13. Avoid over cooking. Add the essence. Allow to cool.
    14. Beat butter with remaining sugar. Add the egg yolks one by one, beating well after each addition.
    15. Fold in the Maida alternately with the cooled sauce.
    16. Gently fold in the stiffly beaten egg whites.
    17. Pour in a prepared cake tin and bake in a mode oven (170 degrees centigrade) till done (30 mins).
    18. Cool and cut horizontally into two slices. Sandwich the slices with the halwa.
    19. Sprinkle some icing sugar on top and serve sliced.
