Curd rice is a delicious lunch recipe from South India. The recipe is extremely good for digestion and tastes best when served cold with appalam and pickle.


  • 1 cup - raw Rice
  • 2 cups - curd/yoghurt
  • 1 cup - Milk
  • 1 tsp - Butter
  • 3 - Green chillies
  • 1 tbsp - black gram dal
  • 1 tbsp - Bengal Gram dal
  • curry leaves, small quantity
  • coriander leaves, small quantity
  • ginger, small quantity
  • mustard, small quantity
  • asafetida, a pinch
  • salt to taste
  • oil for frying
  • How to Make Curd rice:

    1. Keep rice in the pressure cooker.
    2. One cup of rice requires 6 cups of water.
    3. Rice should be mashed after cooking.
    4. Mix curd, milk and butter and keep ready in one bowl.
    5. Add required amount of salt.
    6. Heat oil in a pan/kadai, splutter mustard, black gram dal, Bengal gram dal and curry leaves.
    7. Add asafoetida, ginger, green chillies and fry them well.
    8. Mix all the contents to the curd mix and add these to the smashed rice.
    9. Garnish with coriander leaves.
