Ingredients

  • 2 - crabs
  • 6 - shallots
  • 2 stalks- lemongrass
  • 2 tsp- tamarind
  • 1/2 cup- boiling water
  • coriander leaves, as required
  • 3 cloves- garlic
  • 1 tbsp- fresh galangal or ginger
  • 2 to 3 - chillies, seeded
  • 4 - cashew nuts
  • 1 tsp- turmeric powder
  • 2 cups - coconut milk
  • 2 tbsp- oil
  • pepper to taste
  • salt to taste

How to Make Curried Crab

  • Clean and remove the hard shell of the crab.
  • Break the big claws apart and gently crack them.
  • Chop the shallots and lemongrass, and then add 2 teaspoons of tamarind in 1/2 cup of boiling water.
  • Chop the coriander leaves and keep aside.
  • Grind the garlic, ginger, chillies, cashew nuts, turmeric powder, pepper, and salt to a fine paste.
  • Heat oil in a pan and fry this paste until you get a fragrant aroma.
  • Then add the chopped shallots, lemongrass, crab pieces, and coconut milk.
  • Simmer on a low flame till the crab is cooked, and then add the tamarind water.
  • Remove from heat and serve in a big bowl garnished with chopped coriander leaves.
