Ingredients

  • 1 cup - masoor dal
  • 1 - big onion
  • 1 - tomato
  • 6 - green chillies
  • 3 tbsp - vegetable oil
  • 3 tbsp - of ghee
  • 1/2 tsp - garlic paste
  • 1 tsp - shazeera
  • 2 - cardamoms
  • 2 sticks - cinnamon
  • Chilli powder to taste
  • Salt to taste
  • 3 cups - water

How to Make Dal Makhani with Masoor Dal

  • Pressure cook masoor dal for 2 whistles and keep it aside. Do not overcook the dal.
  • In a pan, heat oil. Add garlic paste and fry for a while.
  • Add onions and green chillies and fry till they turn golden brown.
  • Add tomatoes and saute.
  • When onions, green chillies and tomatoes are well-cooked keep them aside and allow to cool.
  • Grind it into a smooth paste and keep aside.
  • Grind fennel seeds and cinnamon into a fine powder.
  • In another pan, melt ghee. Add cardamom and then the powdered mixture.
  • When it splutters add the cooked masoor dal along with 2-3 cups of water.
  • Bring it to boil and add the paste of onions, green chillies and tomatoes.
  • Stir and boil for about 5 minutes.
  • Add salt and chilli powder.
  • Garnish with coriander and serve hot
