Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup - Toor Dal
  • 1 tsp - Ghee
  • 1 - Potato
  • 150 g - yellow Pumpkin
  • 1 - Brinjal
  • 1 - Raw banana
  • 1 - Papaya
  • 2 tsp - grated Coconut
  • 4 - Dried red chillies
  • 1 tbsp - Ginger
  • 1 tbsp - Turmeric
  • 1 tsp - panch - phutana (cumin, mustard, fennel, fenugreek, kala jeera) seeds
  • 1/2 tsp - Sugar
  • 2 tsp - fried cumin and Red Chilli powder
  • Salt to taste
  • How to Make Dalma (Oriya):

    1. Dry roast cumin and red chillies in a pan, grind it and keep aside.
    2. Boil 4 cups of water and add both dals (toor and channa), coconut, salt, minced ginger, turmeric and sugar.
    3. When the dals are half cooked, add all the vegetables and cook till soft and tender.
    4. Fry the panch-phutana until it crackles and add it to the cooked dal.
    5. Sprinkle roasted cumin and chilli powder.
    6. Decorate with grated coriander leaves.
    7. Serve.
