Ingredients

  • 1 - onion (medium size)
  • 3 - tomatoes (big)
  • 1 tbsp - sesame seeds
  • 4 - green chillies
  • 1 tsp - urad dal - 1tsp
  • 4-5 - curry leaves
  • 1tsp - red chilli powder
  • 1 tsp - mustard seeds
  • 1 pinch - asafoetida
  • salt according to taste
  • 3 tbsp - oil
  • 1 handful - cilantro

How to Make Easy Tomato Chutney

  • Dry-roast the sesame seeds for a minute.
  • Heat oil in a pan, add asafoetida, mustard seeds and curry leaves.
  • Once mustard seeds start to crackle, add urad dal and chopped green chillies.
  • Next add chopped onions, tomatoes and continue to fry.
  • Add chilli powder and salt before the tomatoes turn mushy.
  • Once the tomatoes turn mushy, set aside and allow the mixture to cool.
  • Finally, grind the above mixture along with roasted sesame seeds and cilantro. It goes well with idli, dosa, methi/paneer-parantha.
