Ingredients

  • 1 can chickpeas, rinsed and drained
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 3 tbsp. chopped Parsley
  • 1 tsp. ground coriander
  • 1 tsp. ground cumin
  • 2 tbsp. all purpose flour
  • 2-3 tbsp. Olive oil
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • ½ iceberg Lettuce shredded, to serve
  • For the spicy sauce:
  • ½ cup Tomato sauce
  • ½ - 1 tsp. harissa paste, to taste
  • 2 Garlic cloves, crushed
  • 1 tsp. Lemon juice
  • 1/3 cup water
  • 1 tbsp. chopped Parsley

How to Make Falafels with Spicy Sauce

  • To make the sauce:
  • Place all the ingredients in a small saucepan and simmer for 10 minutes.
  • Meanwhile, place all the falafel ingredients except the oil in a large bowl and mash together with a fork.
  • Alternatively, place the ingredients in a food processor and process until smooth.
  • Using wet hands, shape the mixture into small balls and flatten slightly.
  • Heat the olive oil in a skillet and cook the falafels for 5-7 minutes, until golden. Serve on the lettuce with spicy sauce.
