  • 6 - fillets of large pomfret or any other boneless fish
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Juice of 1 small lemon
  • 1/2 to 3/4 cup - green coconut chutney
  • Banana leaf
  • For coriander chutney:
  • Grind the following together to make a fine paste and add 2 tbsp oil
  • 2 cups - coriander leaves (chopped)
  • 1/2 cup - fresh coconut (brown skin removed and grated)
  • Green chilli to taste
  • 1 tsp - cumin seed
  • 2 tsp - sugar (to taste)
  • 1 tbsp - lemon juice

How to Make Fish in banana leaf

  • Rub salt and lemon juice on the fish fillets.
  • Soften the banana leaf by keeping in a colander over boiling water for a few seconds. Grease one side of the banana leaf.
  • Apply coriander chutney liberally on 3 fillets of fish. Sandwich them with other 3 fillets.
  • Put the sandwiched fish pieces individually on greased banana leaves, tie with a thread.
  • Steam in a colander for 45 minutes till the fish is cooked.
  • Remove the thread, squeeze some lemon juice on top and serve immediately with salad.
