Ingredients

  • 300 gm - boneless fish, any variety
  • oil for frying the fish
  • 1 tbsp. - corn flour
  • 1 tsp - fennel powder
  • 2 tsp - onion seeds (kalonji)
  • 1 tsp - black cumin (kala jeera)
  • 1 cup - onion, fried brown
  • 2 tsp - ginger-garlic paste
  • 2 tbsp. - tomato puree
  • 2 tbsp. - coconut milk
  • salt to taste

How to Make Fish in onion seeds

  • Cut fish into cubes, sprinkle salt and corn flour over it.
  • Heat oil for shallow frying and fry the fish pieces, a few at a time.
  • Turn once or twice so that both the sides of the fish are cooked to a golden brown colour.
  • Drain oil and keep aside.
  • Fry browned onion, ginger-garlic paste and the tomato puree in the same pan.
  • Sir and cook over medium heat for 2 mins. Lower heat, mix in the spices and cook for 30 seconds. Then, add 1 cup of water. Add salt. Bring to a boil and add the coconut milk.
  • Mix in the fried fish pieces. Bring to simmer and turn off heat.
