The wonderful, mouth-watering, fried Maharashtrian recipe of Fish Koliwada is a finger licking snack which originates and is inspired from kitchens of the Kolis or the fishermen of the Maharashtra region.

To make Fish Koliwada, firstly you need to clean and marinate the fish with turmeric and salt and leave it aside for 30 minutes. You need to mix all the following ingredients together – coriander leaves, ginger paste, garlic paste, turmeric powder, garam masala, ajwain powder, saunf powder, and red colour (optional) in lime juice.
Apply this masala to the fish and allow it to be marinated at least 2-3 hours.

Next, roll each fish fillet in the rice flour and fry it in a pan on medium flame till it turns into a wonderful golden-brown colour on both sides. Garnish with coriander leaves and satiate your hunger pangs!

How to Make Fish Koliwada

  • Apply salt and turmeric to the cleaned fish fillets. Keep it for 1/2 hour.
  • Mix together all the ingredients in lemon juice (except oil and rice flour) to make masala.
  • Apply this masala to the fish and let it marinate for 1-2 hours.
  • Heat a fry pan and add 1 tbsp oil and let it heat.
  • Then roll each fish fillet in the rice flour.
  • Shallow fry till light brown on medium flame.
  • Remove when fried on both sides.
  • Serve hot.
