Goan Green chicken curry is an amazing infusion of Indian flavors with chicken in Goan style. The recipe, native to Goa, is a popular non-vegetarian dish.

Many food joints and regular dhabas in Goa serve this delicacy and it is a must have dish when in Goa. What you don't know is that you can make this simply recipe in the comfort of your home. Chicken cooked into the green gravy made out of coriander, coconut, mint and green chilies impart a wholesome flavor to the whole dish.

The unique combination of different flavors is very pleasing to the palate. This chicken curry recipe can be easily made in a pressure cooker. Learn how to make this unique Goan recipe by following out detailed instructions below.


  • 1 full Chicken - 1 kg
  • 1/2 tsp - Garlic - Ginger paste
  • 2 - sprigs Curry leaves
  • Salt to taste
  • 6 tbsp - desiccated Coconut
  • 2 - Green chillies
  • 1 cup - Mint leaves
  • 3 cups - Coriander leaves
  • 1/2 tsp - Cumin seeds
  • 1/2 tsp - pepper Corns
  • 1/2 tsp - Turmeric powder
  • 2 - large Onions chopped finely
  • 1/2 cup - chopped coriander to garnish
  • 1 tsp - Sugar
  • Oil
  • 1 inch stick - Cinnamon
  • 2 - Dried red chillies
  • 5 - cardamoms.
  • How to Make Goan green chicken curry:

    1. In a mixer, grind coconut, coriander, mint, salt, sugar, turmeric, pepper corns, cumin, half the onions and green chillies into a smooth paste, adding water.
    2. Fry the remaining onions in hot oil and then add garlic-ginger paste, salt, cardamom, cinnamon, whole red chillies and fry well.
    3. Add the ground masala/spices 2 tbsps at a time, frying well.
    4. Add washed chicken pieces and fry well for 2-3 minutes.
    5. Add curry leaves, add 2 cups water, cover and cook till the chicken is done (1 whistle on high flame and simmer for 5 mins in pressure cooker).
    6. Garnish with chopped coriander and serve.
