Ingredients

  • 1 cup - Whole green gram dal
  • 1 - big Onion
  • 1 - medium Tomato
  • A generous pinch - Turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp - Red Chilli powder
  • 1/2 tsp - Garam Masala powder
  • Salt as per taste
  • 2 tsp - Oil
  • 1 tsp - Jeera seeds
  • 1/2 tsp - Mustard Seeds
  • 2 to 3 pods - Garlic
  • A few - Curry leaves
  • How to Make Green Gram Dhal:

    1. Soak green gram for at least 6-7 hours.
    2. Pressure cook dal with enough water for 3 to 4 whistles until soft and mushy.
    3. Give a quick stir with a ladle to mush it up.
    4. Heat oil, add mustard seeds, jeera and curry leaves and allow it to splutter.
    5. Then add garlic and saute for a second.
    6. Add chopped onions and saute until slightly browned.
    7. Then add tomatoes and saute until raw smell leaves and it shrinks.
    8. Then add turmeric, garam masala, red chilli powder and required salt and mix well.
    9. Add cooked green gram and add 1/4th cup of water and let it boil for 5-7 minutes until the curry is well blended with the masalas.
    10. Serve hot with ghee and rice.
