Ingredients

  • 1 cup - Green moong dal, washed and soaked for 15 minutes
  • 1 - Onion, finely chopped
  • 2 sprigs - Chives, finely chopped
  • 1 sprig - Garlic greens, finely chopped
  • 1 - Green chilli, slit vertically
  • 1 stalk - Curry leaves
  • 1 tbsp - Coriander leaves, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp - Sesame seeds
  • 2 to 3 pinches - Asafoetida powder
  • 1/2 tsp - Red chilli powder
  • 1/2 tsp - Coriander seed (dhania) powder
  • 1/2 tsp - Turmeric powder
  • 1 tbsp - Ghee or oil
  • Lemon juice to taste
  • Salt to taste.

How to Make Green Moong Dal with Onions and Chives

  • Boil the dal until soft. Drain, do not discard skins and keep aside.
  • Heat oil in a heavy pan and splutter the sesame seeds and asafoetida.
  • Now add the curry leaves and whole chillies.
  • Add the onions and saute until pink.
  • Now add the dal, stir and cook for 1 min.
  • Now add all the masala powders, salt and mix well.
  • Cook for 1 min.
  • Now add the chives and garlic greens.
  • Add lemon juice. Garnish with coriander leaves.
  • Serve hot with puris, phulkas, or bread slices.
