How to Make Gujarati Dapka Kadhi

  • Soak the yellow moong dal in water for 2 hours.
  • Drain the water completely and grind it into a smooth paste, transfer the paste to a bowl and add the ginger-chilli paste, sugar, baking soda, salt, oil and mix well.
  • Combine the curd, gram flour and add 2 cups of water, whisk well to avoid lumps.
  • Add the ginger-chilli paste, turmeric powder, sugar and salt, mix well and cook on medium flame.
  • Once the mixture starts boiling, make small balls from the moong dal aka dapka batter and drop them gently into the boiling kadhi.
  • Cook on sim until the dapkas start floating on the top.
  • Heat ghee for tempering, add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, dry red chillies, curry leaves and fry until they turn brown.
  • Add this to the dapka kadhi. Add chopped coriander leaves and turn off the stove.
