Ingredients

  • Tur dal - 1 cup
  • Oil - 2 tbsp
  • Onion - 1
  • Ginger paste - 1/2 tsp
  • Garlic paste - 1 tsp
  • Tomato(diced or paste) - 3 tbsp
  • Tamarind - 6-8 pieces (not paste)
  • Red Chilli powder - 1 tsp
  • Turmeric - 1/2 tsp
  • Mustard Seeds - 1 tsp
  • Jeera seeds - 1 tsp
  • Curry leaves
  • Salt to taste
  • Coriander leaves
  • How to Make Khatti Masala Daal:

    1. Wash tuvar dal and boil it.
    2. Mash the dal.
    3. In a kadai, put oil.
    4. Add curry leaves, mustard seeds and jeera seeds.
    5. Fry for a minute
    6. Add onion and fry till slightly brown.
    7. Add ginger and garlic paste.
    8. Fry for a minute.
    9. Then add the tomatoes (paste or diced).
    10. Cook it till the oil separates.
    11. Add tamarind in it. Add turmeric powder and red chilli powder.
    12. Cook for 4 to 5 mins.
    13. Add the mashed tur dal.
    14. Add water as per the thickness required. Add salt to taste.
    15. Garnish with coriander leaves.
