Kundapur Masala Powder is a spice mix used in Mangalorean cuisine. This traditional masala powder made from hot Indian spices is also known as Kundapur Taal Masala. Many communities of this state use different versions of this spicy powder and one version is called 'Bafat Masala'.You can now easily prepare Kundapur Masala Powder at home. 

This masala powder with a sharp,spicy taste is prepared by dry roasting dried red chillies, coriander seeds, pepper corns, methi seeds and turmeric powder.
The golden-brown coloured spices are then ground into a fine powder.

How to Make Kundapur Masala Powder

  • Heat an iron kadai. Dry roast all the ingredients (except garlic) separately on medium heat till they become fragrant and golden in colour.
  • Finally add garlic (without peeling the skin) and grind to a powder in a mixer.
  • Cool and store in an airtight container. Keep in refrigerator for later use.
  • This masala powder goes well with vegetables, chicken, mutton and egg dishes in Mangalorean cuisine.
